The University of Valladolid is a public university with a long tradition going back almost 800 years, making it one of the oldest universities in the world.
The University of Valladolid offers a wide variety of degrees in the fields of Science, Humanities, Engineering and Architecture, Health Sciences and Social and Legal Sciences. It has 24 Faculties or Higher Schools where more than 70 Degrees, 64 Masters, 16 joint study programs, double international degrees and 29 Doctorate Programs are taught. Every year, more than 22,000 students study at the University of Valladolid, and among them, some 1,500 are international students.

STUDY AT THE UVA |
The UVa offers a wide variety of academic programmes in its 24 faculties and schools in its 4 campuses, in the cities of Palencia, Segovia, Soria and Valladolid:

ORIENTATION DAY |
WELCOME AND ORIENTATION DAY OR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS |
A welcome and orientation day for international mobility students will take place a few days before the beginning of each semester, in September and February. The details of this event will be communicated by email well in advance.
The UVa will provide transport for all international mobility students who wish to participate in this event, but are located at one of the UVa campuses outside the city of Valladolid.
Practical information for your mobility is provided in this event, so your attendance is strongly recommended.
LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION |
Most of the courses are taught in Spanish, but the UVa also offers courses in English:
— International Semester Programmes.
— Study in English at the UVa.
If the language of instruction (Spanish and/or English) of your chosen courses is not your mother tongue, the UVa requires a B1 level certificate of that language in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
Regarding the Spanish language, if you do not have this certificate, the UVa requires accreditation of an A2 level, either according to the CEFRL or through your home university, and you must attend an intensive course at the University of Valladolid Language Centre at the beginning of your stay.
For courses included in International Semester Programmes, a B2 level certificate in English is required.
LANGUAGE COURSES |
The UVa Language Center offers Spanish courses to international students who want to improve their proficiency in this language.
If you do not have the language certificate required for your international mobility at the UVa, you must attend a compulsorily intensive course at the beginning of your stay.
Spanish courses may be organized at the Palencia, Segovia and Soria campuses, provided that there is enough number of students. Registration is carried out through the international relations offices in each campus:

Students who complete the 40-hour Spanish courses held at the UVa Language Center are awarded 3 ECTS. At the end of the course, the Language Center will inform us of your grade, we will enter it in your academic file and it will appear on your transcript of records.
You can obtain recognition for several language courses of different levels during your stay.
To obtain this recognition, you must have accredited an attendance of more than 75% of the classes.
To obtain recognition at your home university, you must include it in your learning agreement.
The UVa Language Center also offers other language courses on the different UVa campuses: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Chinese, Arabic and Hindi.
ACADEMIC CALENDAR |
The academic calendar for each academic year will be available at this link when it is published: Academic calendar.
Generally, the academic year takes place from the beginning of September to the beginning of July:
— First semester: from the beginning of September to the beginning of February.
— Second semester: from the beginning of February to the beginning of July.
Not all bachelor’s and master's degree study programmes begin their classes on the same date. You can check the timetables of your courses on the UVa website to know more precisely the date on which your classes will begin. In the information about each study programme, in the menu "Asignaturas", next to each of them you can find a link to their timetable. You can also find information about the timetables on the websites of each faculty or school.
To have more precise information about when your study period will end, you can check the dates of the exams of your courses, when they are published, in the menu "Fechas de examen" in the information about each study programme on the UVa website.
You should bear in mind that the first exam period is followed by a resit exam period.

TRANSCRIPT OF RECORDS |
At the end of your study period at the UVa, the International Relations Office will prepare your Transcript of Records and send it to you by email.
The Transcript of Records includes the information about the ECTS credits and the corresponding qualifications of the courses taken and their equivalence with the ECTS qualification system.
The Transcript of Records is a digital document. Its validity can be checked using the verification code in the signature footer.
It is possible to download the original document form the UVa website using the link in the signature footer of the document.
IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES |
BEFORE YOUR ARRIVAL — DO YOU NEED A VISA? |
If your nationality is that of a country member of the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, you do not need a visa to enter Spain and stay for a study period.
If your nationality is from other countries:
— If you are going to come in the framework of a European Union mobility programme from a country member of the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland and you have previously obtained a stay permit in that country that is valid during your entire stay in Spain, you do not need any permit to enter Spain and stay for a study period of up to 360 days.
— If you come from other countries, you must apply for a student visa before your arrival to enter Spain and stay for a study period of more than 90 days.
UPON YOUR ARRIVAL |
If your nationality is that of a country member of the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland and your stay will exceed 3 months, you will only have to register in the Central Registry of Foreigners if you need to apply for the Foreigner's Identity Number (NIE).
If your nationality is from other countries and your stay will exceed 6 months, you must apply for a Foreigner Identity Card (TIE)

If you want to extend your stay for a period longer than is stated on your visa, you must apply for renewal of the authorization and the TIE within 60 calendar days prior to its expiry date or within the following 90 days.

INSURANCE |
The UVa requires all international mobility students to have an insurance that covers both health care and travel assistance.
HEALTH CARE |
If you have a European Health Insurance Card, you are entitled to receive health care in Spain through the public health services.
If you do not have a European Health Insurance Card, you must take out health care insurance valid in Spain throughout your stay. You can take it out with any company of your choice or through the insurance company OnCampus, with which the UVa has an agreement. Their insurance OnCampus Healthcare covers both healthcare and travel assistance.
TRAVEL ASSISTANCE |
Your travel assistance insurance must include international medical transport and repatriation in the event of death and must be valid in Spain throughout the stay.
The European Health Insurance Card is not a substitute for travel assistance insurance.
You can take it out with any company of your choice or through the insurance company OnCampus, with which the UVa has an agreement: OnCampus Estudia.

ACCOMMODATION |
You must bear in mind that the UVa has campuses in the cities of Valladolid, Palencia, Segovia and Soria, so it is important that you confirm the destination of your mobility before making an accommodation reservation.
The UVa suggests the following accommodation options for international mobility students.
RENTAL OF PRIVATE APARTMENTS OR ROOMS |
The UVa collaborates with the online accommodation search platform for students Erasmus Play, that helps you compare the available accommodation offer quickly and easily. In addition, you can make an entirely secure reservation, since all their accommodations are verified.
You can also use rental listing websites such as Fotocasa and Idealista, in which you can search for apartments or rooms in shared apartments.
The student association Erasmus Student Network University of Valladolid, ESN Valladolid, provides an accommodation search group to international mobility students.
The approximate price is € 180 – € 220/month per room, which may vary depending on the expenses included, such as electricity, gas, water or internet.
The total cost of these utilities usually ranges from € 50 to € 80 per person, depending on the actual consumption and the number of people sharing.

OPENING A BANK ACCOUNT |
Apart from some specific exceptions, such as hiring utilities, you will not need to have a Spanish bank account during your stay.
To open a bank account you will first need to obtain:
— Foreigner Identity Number (NIE), if your nationality is from a country member of the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland.
— Foreigner Identity Card (TIE), if your nationality is from any other country.
It is recommended that you inform the bank about which services you will be requiring (type of account, cards, transfers, online banking ...) so that they can inform you about the terms and conditions applicable. This will enable you to compare the various offers each bank makes you.
HEALTH CARE AND EMERGENCIES |
If you have the European Health Insurance Card and you require medical assistance, you must go to the nearest health centre to where you live with your card and with your identity document or passport.
If you have private medical insurance and you require medical assistance, you must contact your company for them to tell you where you should go to so that your medical expenses are covered.
For emergencies, whether medical or any other kind, you should call the emergency number 112, which operates 24 hours a day and consult the document Emergency protocol.

The Virtual UVa Smart Card (vTUI) is integrated into the UVa App. This card is your identification as a member of the UVa and allows you to access certain facilities and services.

If you have a disability, the UVa Disability Service will provide information, guidance and advice during your stay at the UVa. We aim to facilitate inclusion and maximise autonomy.

ERASMUS STUDENT NETWORK |
Erasmus Student Network is an international organization of student volunteers throughout Europe. Its local section Erasmus Student Network Universidad de Valladolid, ESN Valladolid, provides assistance to all students who carry out an international mobility period at the University of Valladolid.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES |
The Centro Buendía coordinates and promotes cultural activities at the UVa. You can find all the information on their website.
MUSICAL GROUPS |
— UVa Spanish Ballet, offers dance activities, some especially aimed at international students.
All of them usually hold entrance exams at the beginning of each academic year.
SPORT ACTIVITIES |
The University of Valladolid has a Sports Office, at each of the four campuses (Valladolid, Palencia, Segovia, and Soria), where you will be able to practice sports by using the facilities or taking part in its various groups and activities.
In addition, you can get in touch with a sports specialist at each of the UVa faculties or schools. They will inform you which activities will be organised and which sports teams you can join.
To be able to use certain facilities and to participate in sports groups or organised activities, you are required to either register beforehand or reserve a place via the Sports Office website. To do this, you must have access to the UVa’s online services, as well as your UVa card.
Hiking and mountaineering activities are organised by the UVa Mountaineering Group throughout the academic year. Transport is included.
VOLUNTEERING |
The University of Valladolid promotes activities aimed at the university community and society with the primary goal of the acquisition of skills by students through their direct participation in social and solidarity programs, either through UVa initiatives or through collaboration with other institutions.
Students will be able to perform tasks aimed at supporting vulnerable groups, participate in cultural exchange activities, prevention and information activities, activities for gender equality in the university, solidarity accommodations for students or workshops and conferences organized by the UVa.
It is possible to obtain academic recognition for these activities.
